Route Feedback: Wistow Crag

Whistow Crag. A long, tiring flog up to the crag – whoever said that it takes one hour to approach must have used a helicopter! It’s 2 hours, and I’ve done it twice. Never again! It’s harder than the approach to Scafell. The descent feels even worse. Although it is hidden in plain sight from the car park, you need dedication to climb there. The gully walls are impressive, topped by the lovely Ah Wisto slab. The upper right walls are big (60m) but they are too vegetated to be worth the effort. They’re the sort of place that would have been popular in the 60’s, as we’re Green Crag Buttermere or Rainsborrow in Kentmere back then. If the upper wall was in The Duddon it would be great, it’s the best unclimbed rock there.
