DANGER – Middle Earth – F7b – Bramcrag Wall – 3rd bolt missing
In June 2023 the rock failed at the 3rd bolt causing a ground fall. The condition of the rock is unknown and the route is not known to be climbable.
DANGER – Bramcrag Quarry is unstable. Bramcrag Wall should be treated with suspicion as the rock failed at a bolt. The reason for the fracture is not known but is suspected to be as a result of drilling. The bolt was a glue-in and sound. Also note recent loose block coming off Aphasic Syndrome.
CAUTION – there are areas of unstable rock and utmost care must be taken. In particular, the quarry is not suitable for groups, instruction and, particularly, children. Rockfall occurs regularly, particularly after periods of prolonged heavy rainfall.
FIXED GEAR – this demonstrates that fixed gear can fail. Sport climbs are not safe. Indoor climbing walls are routinely inspected and tested to meet an accepted standard; outside there is no routine testing or inspection and equipment is not placed to meet any standard.. You are responsible for your own safety. You must judge the condition and suitability of the rock and any fixed gear.
