If you are thinking of enjoying your shiny new Duddon and Wrynose guide (well done team!) … whilst up the Duddon late last week, I saw a sign saying the road would be closed to repair Seathwaite Bridge – SD231968 – the bridge just north of the Walna Scar turn off. Closure starts today July 19th for 6 weeks. Hopefully access to the car parking at the west end of The Walna Scar track will be maintained… locals live up there! Access to Birks Bridge & Brandy Crag areas presumably only from the north by Wrynose Pass and Wallowbarrow & Pen from Ulpha.
I don’t know the extent of the closure either side of the bridge – can’t see it on Cumbria CC website – but given the very poor state of the road north of the bridge, I suspect they may take the opportunity to resurface some bits.”
It had now appeared on the Cumbria CC website – https://www.cumbria.gov.uk/…/road…/newroadworksmap.asp
Unfortunately this link no longer works but one should be able to find it.

Looking at the roadworks signs last week, I read them as just the bridge itself closed . so would expect access to walna scar / seathwaite reservoir parking to be unaffected and access to parkings north of the bridge to be possible via wrynose or hardknott.
However , the road authorities are a law to themselves around here, so expect the unexpected.
Access to west end of Walna Scar Road, Seathwaite Tarn and parking for Sunny Pike is clear. Closure is at the junction where the road to Walna Scar leaves the valley road. I visited Crag Band from the Sunny Pike parking on 24 July.
