WDay walk on Friday 25th – Wansfell
The meeting pace is at grid ref NY406019 on Holbeck Lane where this runs from the A591 shortly before the Low Wood (when coming from Windermere) to Troutbeck village. The parking is on the south side of the road opposite a bridleway. The starting time will be 9.30am. We go up the bridleway to Robin Line, on to Hundreds Road, continuing on a permissive path, and cutting across to Nanny Lane. We go up Nanny Lane until a stile on the left gives access to the open fell, then up a path to the Wainwright summit of Wansfell (also known as Baystones). From there we follow a path along the ridge to Wansfell Pike (this can be very boggy) then more or less straight down, with a wall on the right, until we cross the wall at a stile, then pick up another permissive path which takes us to Jenkin Crag, overlooking Windermere Lake, back along a bridleway, passed High Skelghyll farm and back on to Robin Lane, before going down a footpath to Holbeck Lane, for a short walk back along the lane to the cars. The walk is about 11km, with around 400m of ascent.
