Do you want to give something back to the Fells we love?
There will be a further meet with FRCC and Fix the Fells on Monday 22nd and Tuesday 23rd September 2025. We will be doing upland restoration work, which might include making and improving drainage gullies, building paths, and re-profiling peat hags. The work will be in Wasdale and we will be staying at Brackenclose. The group has a maximum of 12 (due to Ranger: Volunteer ratios).
We will meet up at Brackenclose on the Sunday night 21st September, so we are all ready to start work on Monday morning. The work will be supervised by Fix the Fells Rangers, who will also provide all the tools.
You’ll need old clothes rather than your best mountain gear and new Goretex. Bring your own gardening gloves (or old mountain gloves). Safety boots (with steel toe caps) will be needed for the footpath work, but you can borrow these from me if required (if so let me know your boot size). You can also borrow old waterproofs from Fix the fells: again if you would like to borrow let me know your size (unisex!).
Mountain activities (climbing, scrambling, fell walking) can be arranged after the event for those interested. We’ll aim to have a communal meel on the Monday night. For those staying on to Wednesday we will eat at the Wasdale Head Inn on Tuesday night. If you have any particular dietary requirements please let me know.
Please do register your interest with Steve Charles if you would like to attend, or have questions and book yourself into Brackenclose for the dates. Please note the group will have a maximum of 12 volunteers.
I look forward to seeing you at Brackenclose!
