Climbing and Walking

Karn House forms an ideal base for walking, climbing, skiing and mountain biking, with easy access to the Cairngorms and Creag Meagaidh, as well as being surprisingly close to the north-west for those prepared to have a long day to bag those elusive Munros.

History

Karn House was purchased by the FRCC in January 2002 following a most generous legacy from the estate of non-member Yvonne Campbell-Bruce which included an inheritance from member Mollie Hyde-Parker.

Unlike our other properties this is a modern building and, as its previous use was as a B&B, only required a few alterations which included the installation of a new stair case, drying room and enlarging a couple of the bathrooms.

When the ground floor was ready for use, the hut, retaining its original name of Karn House, was officially opened in September 2002. By the end of the year, the necessary work on the upper floor had been completed and the hut brought into full use.
