Mike Mortimer, member since 1970, Guidebook Writer, Langdale has sadly died
Can this be verified please. It has been reported that a Canadian climber with the same name passed away yesterday.
I have no direct information. But Wikipedia has this on their website in reference to the Canadian climber also known as Mike Mortimer:
“On 30 January 2024 the Alpine Club reported that Mike has died following an accident in Murta (Spain). [5]”
I suspect a mix-up which clearly needs resolving.
We were advised that Mike was killed climbing in Spain.
There are reports in newspapers on-line of an 80 year old British man having died after a fall at Murla , Costa Blanca 4 days ago. I guess that must be Mike but would be very grateful if anyone in the FRCC can provide further information.
I’m an interloper from the CC so not even sure I can comment here but hope so and that someone has more information.

See news on CC website.
It has been reported on the Alpine Club Website as well.
I was informed over the phone by thew CC President, so I am fairly sure that sadly it is Mike Mortimer from the FRCC and CC.
This is also on the AC website. http://www.alpine-club.org.uk/news/obituaries/1216-mike-mortimer-2
On 29/1/24, I received the following message from a reliable source: Mike Mortimer has been killed in a climbing accident in Spain whilst lowering off.
No further information has been received, but the above posts confirm this very sad news
