Winter climbs in the Lake District – a joint FRCC/Cicerone Press publication.
In good conditions the district is a very accessible venue for quality winter climbing without the privations of a big day on a Scottish hill. Over the last few winters there have been some excellent conditions, consequently there has been a lot of activity in the gullies and on the crags with many new routes being climbed. Unfortunately this popularity has led to some controversy/conflict and it is important that climbers adhere to the agreements that have been reached to protect fragile habitats in gullies and on the open buttress climbs. Detailed guidance on minimising any damage to flora or rock climbs can be seen here Lakes White Guide – ONLINE VERSION.
