The route description in the latest selected guide has lost a pitch compared to previous descriptions. There is no mention of the open chimney that connects Square Chimney Route to Medusa Wall.
In the current guide pitch 3 is 9m and does not mention the chimney. In the previous selected guide (2003) pitch 3 was 21m.
The description should read: 3. 21m 4c. Continue up the groove to a sloping ledge on the left. Above and slightly right is an open chimney. Follow this for 9m until a clean rock ledge on the right can be reached running from the exposed edge of the pillar headwall.
The description is correct in Lake District Rock (2003) and in Scafell, Wasdale and Eskdale (1996).
