Mosedale Groove 25m E5 6b ☆☆☆
Posted by: Rob Matheson, 25.06.202322.06.2023, Rob Matheson and Ian Cooksey ( both led ) A superb pitch in this fine mountain setting. Follows the striking slim groove line on this isolated buttress, the long walk being part of the overall experience ! Very sustained and technical, once the groove is entered, with the good protection making it all the more enjoyable.
Start below and left of the groove line at an embedded flake.
Commit off this onto the wall and using a series of layaways head into the base of the groove and pull onto the “resting foot ledge”. Unravel the intricacies, first right, then back left, until the peg can be clipped. A perplexing and strenuous sequence then leads to the deserved reward of big holds and a nice view down the groove ! Step right then up the short walls to the platform at the top.
Surely some small sacks of fine-grained building material with the grade? Well done to you both!
Cheers Al, We discussed grade of E5 or E6. Probably French 7B with good protection and on the new egrader app this comes out as Hard E5. Thanks for sharing this line with us Al — it really is a superb pitch and well worth the long walk.
That looks brilliant! Bon effort from this evergreen team…
When we first developed this area back in 1997 I said there is enough rock around for 100 routes in this valley. Probably the least developed area remaining in the Lakes?
