The following note is in the Rucksack Journal of 1946: WHITESTONES CRAG: A small granite outcrop on the east side of the main Grange to Newby Bridge road, about 2 miles south of Newby Bridge. General height of climbs 70-100 feet. The main face of crag is about 150 feet wide, with a further higher rib at the northern end. Cairns mark the start of most routes and the easier routes are well scratched. All standards of difficulty may be encountered from very difficult to very severe. There is a girdle of 150 feet. Nine routes were climbed in all, including two very severe slabs. First Ascents : G. F. Parkinson, W. H. Rae (non-member), G. Dwyer (non-member). 1944-45. There are nine routes including a girdle all given the date of pre-1969 in the 2012 guide so these should probably be credited as above, though these easer climbers would seem to have been climbed before this.
