Quite a serious route but with fine positions. It takes the arête above the start of Slab and Notch Climb and starts as for that climb. Climb directly up to a ledge on a pinnacle. Make hard moves up and left to a brief respite and some gear (if you search), then continue up the steep wall to a turf ledge on the right. Follow the easier shallow depression above to the top, taking great care with loose rock.
Climbed to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of WWII – the line was first mentioned by CF Holland, recovering from wounds sustained in WWI, in an article in the 1919 FRCC Journal, “New Climbs in Wasdale”, in which he wrote, “If anyone is desirous of adding an eighth to the Jordan climbs on Pillar let him examine the rocks above the slab of the “Slab and Notch,” especially the arête.”
The photo shows Peter Winterbottom making the first ascent, belayed by Tony Daly.
